Digging Nose

DIGGING NOSE (Definition): A dirty, sometimes muddy spot on the tip of the snout that indicates a digging session in which some or all parts of the yard are destroyed.
Exhibit A

Lulu Mitchell loves to dig. It’s in her DNA. If we leave her unattended for even a minute, she will dig. Sometimes it’s a little hole; sometimes it’s ten little holes. Sometimes it’s a giant crater. There is no method to her madness. The worst part about digging nose is that it’s almost a sure indicator of “digging paws.”

DIGGING PAWS (Definition): Occurs when mud and other outdoor gunk is caked into the fur and under the nails of a digging puppy. This is typically confined to the front paws, although there have been instances involving all four paws.

The worst is after a big rain when everything is wet and muddy. We have to hold her paws under the sink and squeeze all the mud out (I say “we,” but I really mean Erik). She knows when she comes in from digging we’re going to do this, so most of the time she tries to dart past us. It’s hard to catch her when she gets past the back room, and the first place she typically goes is our bed.

She loves being bad. She can’t help it. It doesn’t matter how hard we spank her or how loud we yell, she would rather be bad and face the consequences than do what we say.

Sunning, Chewing & Snoozing

Lulu had a nice relaxing weekend. She sunned herself on the deck, chewed up my ugg house shoes a little more and fell asleep in her daddy’s arms. She lives a good life.

We went to the dog park on Saturday and she made a new friend. His name is Peanut. He is a rescue doodle and he’s the fluffiest thing I’ve ever seen. I should have taken a picture of him, but I didn’t. He lives in our neighborhood, so hopefully we’ll run into him again. He and Lulu looked so cute together. He would chase her around and she would try to bite him. I think they both knew they were doodles. Later that afternoon we took a big long walk to Red Mango so Lulu could sample some yogurt. She liked the key lime flavor, but she really prefers blueberry in case anyone was wondering. It was fun day and we all slept very well that night!

Camera Shy

I know I’ve been slacking on the blog lately. I was going to try to post everyday, but that hasn’t been happening. I would say that I have no new material because Lulu hasn’t done anything cute or interesting, but we all know that would be a lie! I’ve really just been lazy. I tried to video her attacking her bone last night, but it didn’t really work out. I think she was camera shy. She was going crazy…growling, jumping rolling on top of it, but as soon as the camera came on, she froze.

Her new thing is digging up the bed. She jumps up by the pillows and starts digging until she’s pulled all the covers back. Her favorite time to do this is right after I make it. We’ll be in the living room and all the sudden I hear her going at it. It’s so funny to watch. I'll try to get it on video next time.
Just being cute...

Fluffy No More

I’m back from A-town (aka Austin).  We had a great time, but needless to say, I’m exhausted. The cupcakes we ordered for Lauren’s lingerie shower turned out great. This is the only picture I took of them (sorry, it’s not the best):
BTW those are cookie toppers on the cupcakes.
Anything that combines two desserts is good in my book!
I missed Lulu and Erik a lot, so I was glad to get back pretty early on Sunday. My wonderful husband did a great job taking care of Lu while I was gone. He took her to the dog park Saturday and then to get groomed on Sunday. For a while now, Erik and I have been discussing shaving Lulu pretty close. I feel like the poor baby stays hot all the time, so I decided to put her personal needs before my wanting her to be pretty and fluffy. Erik wanted her to have a mohawk, but I vetoed that idea.

I am very lucky to have a good friend (Megan) who just happens to be an amazing mini goldendoodle groomer. She’s also a dog breeder, so I always call her when I’m worried something is wrong with Lu (pretty much once or twice a week).

After a close inspection by Megan, Erik said they decided Lulu's hair was too thick for the clippers, so they just cut it as close as possible with the scissors. It took forever, but she looks and feels so much better. You can actually tell that she has legs now!
Halfway done!
She did this on her own

She was a tired pup after the intense grooming session

They really bonded while I was gone

Austin Here We Come!

I'm so excited because today we leave for Lauren's bachelorette party in Austin! I'm drinking a mimosa as I write this to get in the spirit! Of course I'm a little panicked about our flight, but that's to be expected. Maybe an airport cocktail or two will help : )

This will be Lulu's first weekend to stay by herself with her daddy. I'm going to try to relax and not worry about her every second while I'm gone, so we'll see how that goes. I'm pretty sure she ate a whole dryer sheet this morning while I was packing, so I hope no one has to take to the vet. She was very pleased with herself. She snatched it from my laundry pile and ran into the living room. I let her have it for maybe one minute (because she usually just shreds them), but when I went to check on her it had vanished. She's either hidden it for later or she ate it. I'm going to miss my sweet girl!

Dede came for a visit this week so of course she brought Lu a new toy. Meet Piggy:

Piggy is like the baritone version of chicken. You can hear for yourself in this video:

So this is a little random. I got a fortune cookie yesterday and this is what it said:

I don't know how to take that considering I'm leaving for a bachelorette party in about 20 minutes. I hope nothing crazy happens. It could be "the hangover" part 3. I'll let yall know what happens when I get back!
