As you know, Easter is coming up this weekend. We will be
spending it at my mom’s house, so of course Lulu’s cousin Claire (big yellow
lab) will be there. It will be Lulu’s first time hunting eggs, so I decided to
stage a little practice round. I want to be sure she has her game face on when
the big event happens! Claire is very smart so I know she’ll be a good hunter.
Lulu, not so much. She actually surprised me and did really well at opening the
eggs and getting the treats out during our trial run. However, she had a little
trouble finding the eggs when I hid them. I take that back. She had a lot of
trouble. I would sit one right in front of her and she wouldn’t see it. Poor
thing. Maybe they can work together- Claire can sniff out the eggs and Lu can
open them. We’ll see how it goes. I’ll try to take some good pictures so I can report
back.

Girls Night In
Erik was out of town last night so Lulu and I had a little
girl time. We kicked off the evening with a long walk around the neighborhood.
The weather was so nice and it was “First Thursday,” so all the shops stayed
open late and there was live music and a ton of people walking around. Lu
doesn’t do so well in crowds. She gets way too excited. She tried to lick and
jump on everyone we walked by.
I stopped to talk to a friend and noticed Lu poking around
some cardboard behind a bench. I looked to see what she was doing and saw some
dead baby birds on the ground. I freaked out and jerked Lu back. It would be
just my luck that she would eat a dead bird and have to go to the emergency
vet. Luckily, I pulled her away before she could dig in to the baby bird feast.
YUCK!
When we got home, we played outside for a little while and
caught up on some TV. After that, I decided to take a bath. You would think a
bath would be a relaxing, soothing experience, but when you have Lulu for a
pet, that is not the case. When Erik is home I close the door so it’s fine, but
when it’s just Lu and I, I feel bad locking her out because she’ll sit at the
door and cry. I was hoping she
might be good and let me enjoy my bath, but I was wrong.
First, she kept trying to lean over the edge of the
tub and eat the bubbles. Then she kept pawing at me and scratching my
shoulders. She acts like she wants in, but as soon as I start to lift her over
the edge she backs off. She sat there and whined for a minute, and then she ran
off. Right as I was about to lean back and relax, she came barging back in
squeaking one of her toys. She brought it to the tub and dropped it right in! Oh Lulu. After that I gave up and got out, wet toy and all. We went to bed
early and I got the best sleep I’ve had in awhile. A queen-sized bed is
definitely not big enough for two people and a 33-pound dog that likes to
cuddle, but for just Lu and I, it was perfect!

Red Bed
Lulu has a bed for almost every room. She has her dog bone bed in the living room, her gray bed in the bedroom and her red bed in the kitchen. For some reason, her red bed is her favorite. It's exactly the same as her bone bed, but for some reason it gets "special attention" if you know what I mean (yes, she humps it). She's gotten worse about this, but now practically every time we walk through the kitchen she grabs her bed and runs off with it. The other night she even jumped up on our bed with it in her mouth! Just before I started writing this post she grabbed it from under my desk and drug it off somewhere. Her favorite place to put it is in the middle of a room, right in everyone's way. She's such an odd little thing, but that's why we love her!

The Big Fall
It happened during my lunch break. I was taking Lulu out for
a quick stroll to the post office to drop a letter off when I noticed the skies
turning dark. I thought if I hurried, I’d be able to make it home before the
storm. Wrong! As we were just starting to head home, the loudest crack of
thunder rang out from the skies. Then a huge lightning bolt lit up the clouds.
I told Lu we were about to haul a** home so get ready to run. We took off at
full speed, even though I was wearing flip-flops. As the rain started to pour
down, I could feel my feet getting wet. Before I knew it, I slipped and fell
forward like a baseball player sliding into first. SMACK! I sprawled out right
on the concrete. I somehow managed
to keep a death-grip on the leash because I knew Lu would have kept running.
Poor girl, I probably gave her whiplash. I guess a woman driving saw my fall
because she stopped to check on me.
By this point the tears were already streaming down my face. I held it together long enough to tell her I was fine before I broke down in a hysterical crying fit. I sat there on the sidewalk in the rain feeling sorry for myself. I’d say it was a good 30% pain, 70% embarrassment. I somehow managed to run home and call my husband. I didn’t even ask, but he instantly said he was on his way to take care of me. He’s so wonderful. I doused my wounds in peroxide while I waited on him, and of course, cried some more.
Sweet Lulu stayed by my side the entire time. She licked the tears off my face and put her head in my lap so I could pet her to keep calm. It hurt really badly, but I’m fine now. Erik doctored up my wounds and I stayed home from work for an extra hour to gather myself. Lu decided she needed to lie across my body since I was hurt. She did a good job taking care of me. I’m lucky to have two great nurses that both understand I can be a little dramatic and needy at times. Hey, at least I admit it! I’ll spare you the nastiness and not post the pictures of my injuries.

Spring Cleaning
I am happy to say that I am now blogging from my newly completed home office! My crafty husband refurbished my vintage elfa desk unit from middle school and I have to say, it looks quite nice. He had to do a lot of sanding to cover up the spots where I carved my name in the wood (oops), but I promised him I wouldn't do it again! Lulu doesn't really know what to think of it. We've never spent much time back here before, so she's still getting used to this new hang out. She actually just walked up behind me and whined. We also did a lot of other spring cleaning this past week, so I was able to organize my closet too. I love organizing things! Not cleaning, organizing. There is a difference, just ask my husband. He's the cleaner, I'm the organizer. Lulu is the mess maker (see below). For some reason she decided to get most of her toys out of her basket today and spread them out across the house. Our work is never done!
