New Curtains!

I had some curtains made for our kitchen on etsy and they came in yesterday. As soon as I took them out of the box, Lulu wanted to be all over them.

Checking things out

ta da!

Ever since Lulu got her new haircut, I kept thinking she reminded me of something, I just couldn’t put my finger on what it was. It finally came to me last night. She looks and acts like that little squirrel in the ice age movies (see pictures below).

Don't the skinny legs, fluffy tail and mischievous expression remind you of someone?
There's fluffy tail rolling around by my bed.

Look at that skinny leg!
She went crazy on our sheets again this morning. If Lulu wants you to get up, she’ll dig you out of the bed. There’s no stopping her!

New Collar

I had a collar made for Lulu for her 1st birthday (May 4th), but I just couldn’t wait to give it to her! She helped me open the box it came in and when she saw it, she knew it was hers. It fits her perfectly. She loves the bright colors and fun pattern. It’s not as well made as her Walk-e-Woo collars, but sometimes that’s a sacrifice you have to make for fashion.

We did some spring-cleaning last night, but once that was done we had a pretty relaxing evening. I took Lu on her evening walk and we had a major breakthrough. She was able to contain herself long enough to approach Leroy (the friendly neighborhood cat) and give him a kiss on the nose. Of course she immediately lost all control after that and tried to jump all over him so he ran off.  But I still consider it a somewhat successful encounter. We’ve been working towards this for a long time. She loves kitties. It was one of the first words she learned. If you say “kitty kitty,” she’ll perk up and start looking everywhere for a cat. After our walk Lu was tired so we all got in bed and watched another episode of Frozen Planet, our new favorite family show. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend watching it.

Dancing Queen

Ever since Lulu was a puppy, I would always make up little songs and sing them to her. One of the songs I sing is called “dancing dog,” sung to the tune of Abba’s Dancing Queen. I hold her paws and we dance while I sing. I really don’t know the words to the original song, just the tune, so I sing “Lu can dance, mom can dance” then I hum the rest. Well, last night I was unpacking my bag from the weekend and I heard Erik in the bedroom singing to Lulu. He sang, “Lu can dance, Dad can dance”– I died laughing. He didn’t realize he was doing it and when he heard me laugh he got so embarrassed. It was so cute though.

Lulu was so worn out from the weekend. She crashed early, so we didn’t wake her up for a final potty break before bed. Around 4 a.m., I could feel her moving around at the foot of the bed, so I thought I’d better take her out. We went out in the front yard and I thought I saw a bright light coming from a few doors down. Once I got in the yard, I realized it was a car. My neighborhood has had a lot of break-ins recently, so I was a little scared. Next thing I know, the car starts driving towards me. I thought, ok, maybe they’ll just drive past me since I clearly saw them. Nope. The car stops right in front of my house and the driver door starts to open. I panic and jerk Lu, mid-pee, back up on the front porch and inside the house. I could hear the person saying something as I turned to run, but I couldn’t make it out since I was practically flying back into the house. When we got inside, I started yelling for Erik and told him I thought someone might be after me. We watched out the window and they walked up to my other neighbor’s front porch and then turned around, got in their car and drove off. I took Lu in the backyard to finish her potty break, and then we all went back to bed a little shaken. I started to think about everything that had happened, and then it hit me. I’m pretty sure it was the newspaper delivery person. This morning I walked outside and sure enough, there were newspapers on both my neighbors’ front porches. Oops! I guess I may have overreacted a tad. Better safe than sorry!

Fun in the Sun!

Lulu and I went to Conway to babysit her cousin Claire this weekend. I was dreading taking care of two wild dogs by myself Friday night. We went to bed at 10, but Lu decided that she wanted to chew on a bone for awhile. I took it away and somehow she found another one. Four bones later she had woken Claire up. After a 2 a.m. potty break, we finally settled down. As usual, we were up bright and early at 6 a.m. Luckily my wonderful husband arrived Saturday morning so I had some help the rest of the weekend. The girls were really well behaved and they even got to play in the swimming pool!

You know you’re obsessed with your dog when…

If I was teetering on the edge of being a “crazy dog person” when I put Lulu’s picture on my credit card, then I’ve definitely crossed the line of being overly dog obsessed with my latest purchase: I have ordered a photo blanket that will have Lulu’s pretty face all over it! When I saw the offer on groupon, I couldn’t resist. Now I will get to look at sweet Lulu's face anytime I get cold (which will be a lot when I get this new blanket)! I’m sure I will post a picture and let everyone know how it turns out. I can’t wait for it to get here!

Oh and did I mention that Megan shaved her on Wednesday? Erik doesn't know what to think. I think she still looks beautiful as always, but it does take some getting used to. Her legs look so tiny! I know she will feel better in the heat, so that's all that matters.

New Occupation

Lulu has decided to make a career change. She’s retiring from her job as interior decorator (she worked wonders on our living room rug!) to pursue a career in landscaping. She likes to run along our fence line and grab the vines and yank them down. Our fence is a little ghetto, so she practically has it pulled sideways when she does this.  She also doesn’t care for flowers/weeds. She ate two dandelions and one of those little purplish white flowers yesterday. When we were walking out the front door to go on a walk, she nipped one of the only azalea blooms we had!

Lately she’s really been helping her dad aerate the yard. She’s refined her digging skills so she can do more damage in half the time! She’s such a good little helper.
Investigating her next project!

The results are in!

In yesterday’s post I asked my blog readers to vote on a picture to use on my credit card. After I figured all the totals from the overwhelming number of votes (there were two), it looks like we have a tie. Here are the two finalists:
#1
#3
My friend Libby sent me her vote via text message instead of commenting below the post yesterday. I guess she doesn’t want people to know that she reads my blog. Cat’s out of the bag now Libby! : )

I'm opening the voting back up today, so comment below and tell me which picture would look best on my credit card!

Good News...

Capital One doesn’t suck! When I was trying to book a flight for Lauren’s bachelorette party, I wanted to use my points. Of course they offered every airline except for Southwest, the one we were flying on. I panicked, but then I called and they told me to just book it on my card and they would credit me back and use my points. How nice! Now if only I could find some code online that would give me infinite points, then I’d never have to pay for anything again!!! Obviously I’ve been playing The Sims too much. And yes, I did look up a cheat code for infinite money. It was too hard to wait on my Sims to earn their own money. I learned my lesson because after I had an endless cash flow, the game got boring. Yesterday I decided to delete the whole game off my iPad. It was monopolizing all my free time! Back to the point…Capital One lets me put a picture on my credit card, so I need help deciding on which one to use. For all three of you that actually look at my blog, please comment below and tell me which Lulu picture you like best. Thanks for your help!

Busy Weekend

Lulu was a busy girl this weekend. She went to pack play with her cousin Claire on Saturday and had a great time. My mom said Lulu was the first dog to get in the pond. She was so tired that she actually slept until 7:30 the next morning. That might be a record. Usually Lu has us up no later than 6:30 a.m. I haven’t had to use an alarm clock since we got her!

Lulu also had a big day on Sunday. Our neighbors brought over their dog Hazel for a play a date. Hazel and Lu are about the same size, so they had a lot of fun together. Needless to say, Lulu was exhausted after Hazel left. We relaxed and watched Frozen Planet on the discovery channel and went to bed early. Lulu loves to watch shows about animals. She was a little bothered when the penguins were being attacked by a sea lion, but she was able to relax once the fight was over. Anytime she hears an animal on TV, she gets confused and thinks it’s in the house. Silly girl.

Wild Woman

Lulu was acting a fool yesterday to say the least. When Erik came home he had a Wal-mart sack with him. Lu decided she would rather hump the Wal-mart bag instead of greeting her daddy like she normally does. Bad girl.

I hope monkey doesn't get jealous...

A little later, we were watching American Idol and eating dinner on the coffee table. Lulu decided she wanted a piece of the action, so she walked from the couch right on to the coffee table and just stood there like nothing was wrong. Bad girl. Then, she decided the decorative pillows on the couch looked like fun so she grabbed one in her mouth and hauled it off into our bedroom. Bad girl.

Then she went wild and destroyed our bed again. She pushed the covers all the way back and threw all the pillows on the floor. Bad girl.
Who me? I'm not doing anything wrong.
This bed was fully made when she started
Just admiring my work...
How can you be mad at this face?
I think she was acting out because she was so excited about today. She is spending the day and night with her Dede and cousin Claire. They may even go for a dip in the pool! I will miss her tonight, but I know she will be happy. Hopefully she’ll behave a little better for my mom than she has been for me!
Claire is ready to play with Lulu in the pool!

The Ear

Lulu has this cow ear that I gave her a few months ago. She didn't really think much about it at first. She took it outside one day and left it, so it sat in our yard for about a month. Last week, our neighbors brought their lab puppy Rosemary over to play. Rosemary really liked the ear, so she carried it around in her mouth and Lulu chased her. No big deal. Well, after Rosemary went home, Lulu became obsessed with the thing. She now takes it with her everywhere. She brings it to our bed at night, she takes it out with her to potty, she even tried to take it on a walk! The funny thing is, she doesn't chew on it. She just carries it around and throws it up in the air. She'll sometimes roll around on it and growl at it. She sat it up on our bed yesterday, and I guess she forgot about it, because when she jumped up there later she got so excited she started running circles around the living room. I have a crazy dog!
Thanks Lulu. I really wanted that dirty ear on the clean sheets.

Don't mess with my ear bone

Digging Nose

DIGGING NOSE (Definition): A dirty, sometimes muddy spot on the tip of the snout that indicates a digging session in which some or all parts of the yard are destroyed.
Exhibit A

Lulu Mitchell loves to dig. It’s in her DNA. If we leave her unattended for even a minute, she will dig. Sometimes it’s a little hole; sometimes it’s ten little holes. Sometimes it’s a giant crater. There is no method to her madness. The worst part about digging nose is that it’s almost a sure indicator of “digging paws.”

DIGGING PAWS (Definition): Occurs when mud and other outdoor gunk is caked into the fur and under the nails of a digging puppy. This is typically confined to the front paws, although there have been instances involving all four paws.

The worst is after a big rain when everything is wet and muddy. We have to hold her paws under the sink and squeeze all the mud out (I say “we,” but I really mean Erik). She knows when she comes in from digging we’re going to do this, so most of the time she tries to dart past us. It’s hard to catch her when she gets past the back room, and the first place she typically goes is our bed.

She loves being bad. She can’t help it. It doesn’t matter how hard we spank her or how loud we yell, she would rather be bad and face the consequences than do what we say.
